Police arrested Christians who were attacked by Hindu nationalists in Tamil Nadu state, India, then tried to portray the incident as a fight between two parties, sources said. The Hindu extremists savagely beat four Christians, including a woman whose hand they fractured, for conducting a pre-Christmas charity event for destitute widows, sources said. A Hindu nationalist, group, the Hindu Jagran Manch (HJM), has warned Hindus not to celebrate Christmas in Catholic schools and not give gifts like toys because this can lure children to Christianity.

The HJM is a far-right Hindu nationalist group affiliated with the Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV), a youth nationalist brigade created in 2002 by Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, a guru known for his criticism of Indian Christians and Mother Teresa. Read more









Fr Joseph Ottapurackal, rector of St. Ephrem's Theological College in Satna, has spoken out against the arrest of 30 seminarians and two priests from his seminary. Before their taken into custody, they were held hostage by radical Hindu nationalists on Thursday of last week.

Like every year, they wanted to reach a remote village to hold a Christmas carol service.  Yesterday in Satna, in Madhya Pradesh, 30 seminarians and two priests were held hostage by Hindu fundamentalists for a few hours, after being arrested while they were going to a distant village to perform a Christmas carol service. Sushil John Soren, the 50 year old pastor of Bhirobkhund parish under Tezpur diocese, is currently undergoing treatment at Guwahati Neurological Research Centre. News: Pastor holding Vacation Bible School was arrested on charges of forced conversion. June 19, 2016. Haryana, India. Newsman reports that a pastor and his wife were arrested on charges of converting people for holding Vacation Bible School (VBS) for children. Pastor Sudhir Kumar and his wife were holding VBS in the place called Rampur Chudi in Panchkula, Haryana state while police stormed the class and asked Pastor Sudhir Kumar if he was converting the children. They said they received complaints from local people that he was engaged in converting the children. Based on the complaint, the Pastor and his wife taken into custody. Later they were released after giving written undertaking that they were only holding VBS for children and that they were not converting anyone.

News: Five Women are arrested for distributing Christian literature

June 16, 2016. Coimbatore. Five women are arrested today by the police in the town of Pollachi, near Coimbatore in Tamilnadu for distributing tracts and Christian literature. They were first attacked by a group of 20 men belonging to radical Hindu groups when they saw the women on the streets. Then the police was called. But instead of police arresting the attackers, ended up arresting Ms. Teresa, Ms. Innasi, Ms. Hepsi, Ms. Packiyam and Ms. Shanthi. The hearing for the bail is posted for the June 17th. An evangelical Christian was arrested by the police of Chhattisgarh because it was distributing tracts of the Gospel. Sajan K George, president of the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) told Asia News. Pastor forcibly taken to police station in Kotagiri, Tamil Nadu: Persecution India reports that a group of RSS members accused Pastor Henry of carrying out religious conversions in the hill station of Kotagiri in the state of Tamil Nadu. The Pastor was then forcefully taken to the Kotagiri police station for questioning. According to reports, Rev. Henry was conducting Vacation Bible School classes when around 25 RSS members stormed the St. John's Church. The RSS members created a ruckus and demanded that the Pastor to be brought to the police station. The Pastor and the children attending the Vacation Bible School were all taken to the Kotagiri police station for questioning.

Hindu extremists stone church in Alirajpur, Madhya Pradesh

Persecution India reports that a mob of 500 people led by the District President of the BJP, Rakesh Agarwal, threw stones at the Siyyon (Zion) Church in Jobat, Madhya Pradesh and attacked many women and children who were inside the church. The Hindu BJP leaders alleged that Nigam Raymond and his brother Nirmal Raymond had damaged saffron flags put up near the Church, for the Hindu festival of Ram navami. So, the police had already registered a case against the Raymond brothers based on the complaint. The case of under investigation. Rev. Ariel said, "all this happened right in front of the police officers who stood there as silent spectators."

Hindu extremists announce campaign against Church and wants Christians tried for sedition

Hindu extremists in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, announced that they would carry out a campaign to stop Hindus from attending Sunday prayers at Churches because Pastors "trick them into conversion". Satna district has seen many incident in the recent past where Christians have been targeted, sometimes violently, by right wing groups. A week before the announcement, on April 27, members of a Hindu outfit called Bajrang Dal had stormed into a Church and forcibly stopped a Christian wedding alleging 'conversions'. Laxmi Yadav, a member of the Madhya Pradesh Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Department who enjoys the status equivalent to a junior minister in the government was present when the Bajrang Dal members stormed the church. Yadav, a member of BJP party later told the media, "This is the first case in the country when Christians were caught red-handed converting and marrying OBCs. We will reconvert them, purify them after sprinkling Gangajal and hold a Hindu marriage for the couple. I am seeking legal opinion on whether sedition charge could be invoked against the Christians for waging a war against the country."
